A. FIND BILL NUMBER

1.        Go to Text Search (2001-1988) at http://prdbasis.cga.state.ct.us/BASIS/TSAMDHP/LIN1/AMD/MSF

2.        In Text Search enter:

— Number of public act, e.g. 257

— Enter Year (e.g. 1998)

—  Select Public Acts (1988-2001) in "In Database(s):"

—  Click Search button

 

 

3.        Click Public Acts link in Database(s) Search Results Window


 

4.   Click correct Public Act Number link in Summary of Public Acts Window


(e.g. 1998-PA-00257.PA;2)

 


Bill number appears at top of page (e.g. H.B. 5718)


B. Find Bill History

1.        Go to Text Search (2001-1988) at http://prdbasis.cga.state.ct.us/BASIS/TSAMDHP/LIN1/AMD/MSF

— In Number enter bill number, e.g. 5001

— Enter Year, e.g. 2000

—  Select Bill Status (1991-2001) in pull down “In Database(s)”

—  Click Search

 

 

2.        Click Bill Status link in the Database(s) Search Results Window

3.        Click correct Document Name link in Summary of Bill Status Window

(e.g. 2000 HB-05001-R00-CBS.HTM)

 

At Bill History page note the:

1.        Name of Joint Committee which held public hearings

2.        Date on which Public Hearing(s) was held

3.        Date of House passage or adoption

4.        Date of Senate passage or adoption

 

C. FIND TRANSCRIPT OF PUBLIC HEARING

1.        Go to Text Search (2001-1988) at http://prdbasis.cga.state.ct.us/BASIS/TSAMDHP/LIN1/AMD/MSF

—  In Number enter date in the format mm/dd/yyyy (e.g. 03/11/1998)

—  Enter Year

—  Click Committee Hearings (1998-2001) "In Database(s)"

— Click Search button

2.        Click Committee Hearings link in the Database(s) Search Results Window

3.        Click correct Document Name link in the Summary of Committee Hearings Window

(e.g. 1998APP00311-900.chr;1)

4.       

Click the Download button to load the complete transcript on the page

 


5.        Use Ctrl-F command to search page using the bill, file or LCO number.

 

D. FIND TRANSCRIPT OF HOUSE AND SENATE DEBATES

1.        Go to Text Search (2001-1988) at http://prdbasis.cga.state.ct.us/BASIS/TSAMDHP/LIN1/AMD/MSF

—  In Number enter date in the format mm/dd/yyyy (e.g. 05/06/1998)

—  Enter Year

—  Click Session Transcripts (1998-2001) "In Database(s)"


—  Click Search button

 

 


2.        Click Session Transcripts link in the Database(s) Search Results Window

3.        Click correct Document Name link in the Summary of Session Transcripts Window

(e.g.1998STR00506.TRN;1)

4.       

Click the Download button to load the complete transcript on the page

5.    Use Ctrl-F command to search page using the bill, file or LCO number.

Caution

 

It is best to use the paper transcripts available at the State Library or the microfiche edition available at the Judicial Department Law Libraries. Not only are these transcripts carefully edited by the State Library staff and contain the official pagination but they also contain any written testimony submitted at the public hearings.
